Inhale, Exhale

You know that feeling you get when you take a nice deep breath? It is almost as if it is a reset to your body allowing it take a minute to relax. Sadly, we do not allow those deep breaths often. I don’t know about you but when I am stressed, the last thing on my mind are relaxing breaths. It is in those times though that we need to feed our bodies with a nice inhale and exhale.

Breathing is a crucial part of life and wellness. We all realize that but let’s take it a step further; inhaling through the nose at a proper rate and with ease is even more of an importance.

Nasal breathing is how we are designed to breathe due to all the benefits the nasal cavity provides.

-Filtering debris and dirt from the outside air

-Humidifying and warming the air prior to entry to body

-Allows a proper amount of air to enter and exit

-Incorporates the whole body to work more efficiently (diaphragm, air flow, blood circulation)

-Slows down the breath

Our bodies are so complex that breathing a certain way, whether it is ideal or not, can become a habit that is difficult to break. When it is an unideal breathing behavior, that is when various symptoms arise and can become chronic such as anxiety, sleep disturbances, digestion issues, dental issues, etc.

This is your friendly encouragement to pause and think about your breath. Is it an easy breath through your nose? Are you holding your breath all within the chest cavity? Is it even pinpointable? Here at Joyful Breathing, we work together with our clients to identify the breathing issues, dive into why the breath is occurring the way it is and explore different breathing behaviors that will improve your breathing as well as your overall wellness.
